Direct Hiring Captain Recruitment for Japan residents with Japanese work permit

Employment Type

Upon joining, flight crew members will start on a fixed-term contract during training, transitioning to full-time status upon appointment as an Air Japan Captain. The standard retirement age is 60. Thereafter, employees may continue on annual contract renewals until age 65.

Qualifications

We are seeking Captain candidates who currently reside in Japan and hold unrestricted work authorization. Applicants must meet either requirement 1 or 2, and fulfill all [Common Requirements].

1. Applicants currently working in Japan

  • ・A minimum of 2,500 total PIC hours, including at least 1,000 PIC hours on jet aircraft with a Japanese airline; OR
  • ・A minimum of 1,000 PIC hours on wide-body jet aircraft with a Maximum Takeoff Weight (MTOW) of 200,000 kg or more.
  • ・Note: Applicants not currently employed by a commercial airline may be considered for, or offered, First Officer positions

2. Applicants currently working outside Japan (Overseas)

  • ・A minimum of 2,500 total PIC hours, including at least 1,000 PIC hours on jet aircraft with a Japanese airline.
  • ・Hold a valid Certificate of Japanese Residence, to be submitted by the designated pre-employment deadline.

[Common Requirements (Licenses)]

Applicants must hold the following valid licenses and certificates issued by the Japanese government, both at the time of application and upon joining the company:

    JCAB Airline Transport Pilot License (ATPL)

  2. b.

    Aeronautical Radio Operator Certificate

  3. c.

    Aviation English Language Proficiency Certificate (Level 4 or higher)

  4. d.

    Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate

Exception for Requirements c and d: Equivalent non-JCAB licenses or certificates (e.g., Aviation English Level 4 or higher, or a Class 1 Aviation Medical equivalent) are acceptable at the time of application. However, applicants must independently obtain the official JCAB-issued certificates by October 20, 2026. Applicants who do not currently hold these JCAB certificates must provide their expected acquisition date upon application.

Application Period

Selection Flow

1st round: Document screening
2nd round: Interview (face-to-face)
3rd round: Skill verification by simulator (B767) and interview (face-to-face)

Start Date

January 2027 or later. To be designated by Air Japan

Main Work Locations

Narita International Airport, Tokyo International Airport (Haneda), and other locations designated by Air Japan

Compensation

Payment will be made in accordance with company regulations.

Work Schedule

Variable working hours based on assigned flight and related duties including Saturdays, Sundays, and Holidays *Includes overtime, holidays and late-night

Days off and Leave

Approximately 10 days off per month. Annual leave and special leave (refreshment leave, marriage or compassionate leave, other statutory leave, etc.)
